Elding - Adventure at sea

Elding Whale Watching is a family-owned company. It was founded in May 2000 and has established itself as one of the leading whalewatching operators in Iceland. Elding Tours have two superb whale-watching boats: the flagship, the Elding, a 130-ton cruiser for 150 passengers with 3 viewing platforms, and the Elding II, a luxurious 30-ton motor yacht, carrying up to 38 passengers

The ground staff and captains prepare for each trip well in advance to ensure that the trips depart using the most suitable vessel for the tour. Minibuses will take passengers from their hotel to the boat and back again afterwards, if required. At Elding, we understand the importance of offering a trip which can be enjoyed without limitation. Therefore, all possible precautions are taken to ensure a safe and comfortable trip, so that our passengers can concentrate on the fun and excitement of the tour!

Whale Watching from Reykjavik harbour

Whale watching tours are scheduled from the old harbour in Reykjavik from beginning of April through October. On tours with departure from Reykjavík SE and SW part of Faxafloi is covered.

Whales most frequently seen on tours with Elding are the Minke whales, Orcas, Humpback whales, Dolphins and Porpoises, and sometimes Fin, Sei and Blue whales.  In these areas we see many different species of seabirds such as the gannet, puffin, guillemot razorbill, cormorant, gulls, kittiwake, terns and many more.

Sea angling

Sea angling tours are scheduled from Reykjavík harbor from early May to late August, but can be booked at other times. Sea angling is a fantastic experience. The crystal clear air and the excitement of catching a fish in the happy company of first-timers and experienced fishermen makes this a must-do trip.

The most commonly caught fish on our tours are cod, haddock, pollock and catfish. If you are lucky, you might even catch a giant halibut! We provide all the equipment needed for fishing and assistance by experienced guides. First-class tours for individuals and groups of all sizes. Enjoy our bar & lounge on board and the opportunity of grilling your catch fresh from the sea.

Catch them if you can!

Exclusive Tours

Wales in the midnight sun

The midnight sun and the nature of the bay Faxafloi provide a unique wildlife experience. A trip out on the bay at night in midsummer is unforgettable experience. The wildlife in the bay is at its highest peak. The mountains surrounding the bay do get more effect in the colours of the midnight sun. We do shut down the engines and enjoy the sound of the birds and the cetaceans. On the way back to the harbour we can enjoy refreshments in the saloon or continue to enjoy the view.

It’s possible to order seafood soup for groups in advance.

Blue channels by night

Cruise on the blue channels at the coastline of Reykjavik. We go between the islands in the area and tell you about the changes of our society and culture trough the centuries. We do sing you songs and poems connected to the history of the area. The view of the city from sea is different and it’s easy to see the contrast between the civilisation and the wild. It’s almost like we are between two zones.

It’s possible to order seafood soup for groups

 Whales and vikings

A Cruise from the old harbour of Reykjavík, We do go out on the bay for whale watching or sea angling. But the trip does end in the harbour of Hafnarfjörður and we will dock at the pier of the Viking Village, where some Vikings take the group as “hostages” and bring them to the Viking Village where it is possible to buy a package of dinner and entertainment. On board we serve a “starter” drink for the group on the way to the harbour.
