-           Status: Common breeder and partial migrant

 

-           Residence: arrives in Jan-Feb and departures in Sep

 

-           Clotch size: lays 1 egg

 

-           Nesting place: on cliffs and rocks by the sea or inland, sometimes on rocky islands or pillars

 

-           The nest: shallow depression, often lined with stones or dry plant material

 

-           Population: 1-2 million pairs in Iceland

 

-           Fledging period: 49 days

 

-           Characteristic: Protects its nest by vomiting towards the threat.  Slow to mature, at least six years old before it starts to breed
