We sailed out in the morning and only 20 min later spotted Flak, our winter humpback whale. With the sun present it was significantly 'warmer' as we sailed out this afternoon. We quickly spotted Flak the humpback whale swimming around Engey and went to have a closer look and also saw 2 harbour porpoises that were jumping out the water!
After 10 minutes of sailing we came across a humpback whale before also seeing 5-6 white-beaked dolphins. In the afternoon we went to the same area than this morning to find Flak the humpback whale that this time was in Skarfabakki harbour. We also encountered 2-3 pods of harbour porpoises, one of them was fairly large with maybe 7 individuals.
With the sun still behind the mountains, we noticed a very big splash in the distance! We had a humpback whale in the area and getting closer to it we confirmed it was Flak, who breached at least three times before we also found a minke whale. In the afternoon we ended up around Videyjarflak again, where we finally spotted the blow of a humpback whale.
As we left the harbour we spotted a large black back that was Flak, the humpback whale and a few harbour porpoises. In the afternoon we sailed out once more to Viðey and found our humpback whale again. Flak did a lunge feed directly in front of our boat and also rolled on its side, showing off its white pectoral fins. We also spotted 3 harbour seals that were resting on the rocks.
With a pastel coloured sky we went out in search of some cetaceans! We found Flak the humpback whale chilling in the shallows of Viðey and after a while we found a minke whale and a pod of 4-5 feeding harbour porpoises. In the afternoon we also found Flak and at the same time we saw a harbour seal bottling and later we found a solo harbour porpoise.
Within 15-20 minutes we had found Flak the humpback whale. This was combined with an incredible sunrise behind Reykjavik too. In the afternoon, and a very quick sailing, we found Flak the humpback whale still very close Skarfabakki pier, where it was feeding and going for short dives. It was a lovely sighting with an animal that was easy to observe.
As soon as we sailed out we had Flak the 'resident' humpback whale very close to the shore of Viðey island! We also saw a minke whale that came very close to the boat and kept on swimming towards the land. In the afternoon the humpback whale was still here and we also found 3 very active minke whales and a lone harbour porpoise.
The sea was fairly calm this morning and we sailed to Viðey island to try our luck. We spotted Flak the humpback whale as well as another humpback and at least 7 harbour porpoises. In the afternoon Flak was seen feeding close to shore and even breached before we also spotted a minke whale!
This moody morning we sailed out facing a snow covered majestic Esja. We spotted 1 minke whale and Flak the humpback whale! In the afternoon we also found Flak feeding and although it often changed direction, it always showing its beautiful fluke when it went for a dive.
We made our way towards Viðey island today and much to our delight, our friend FLAK the humpback whale showed up at just the right moment and we later also found some harbour porpoises. This happened on both of our tours today - what a magnificent day in beautiful Reykjavík!
The sun hadn't even appeared behind Reykjavik before we saw our first animal. It was a humpback whale! It was the same as yesterday very close to Skarfabakki harbour called Flak and later we also found another two! In the afternoon we found Flak again near Engey. It did stupendous fluke dives near our boat and we got to enjoy an amazing view of the city.
With an amazing sunrise we went on to try to spot some wildlife. Not too long into our mission, we found a humpback whale that did a deep dive. In the afternoon we found a humpback whale that we identified as Flak (an individual that spent the winter with us last year). A while later we found a minke whale and another two humpback whales!
The sun was just starting to rise as we sailed out this morning. We saw jumping white-beaked dolphins and two humpback whales, one that was quite a shy and the other that we got a good look at. In the afternoon one of our passengers spotted a sneaky minke whale and then we also found a humpback whale!
Despite the challenging weather conditions this morning, we saw a pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins soon after leaving the harbour, then a minke whale and a lunge feeding humpback whale that surfaced close a few times! In the afternoon we saw two feeding humpback whales, although it appeared they were not travelling together, one which surfaced close to us.
Due to unfavourable weather conditions in the bay, we have decided to CANCEL all whale watching tours scheduled today!
Sun is up, freezing cold, that's how we already know, winter's here! Some 10 minutes into the tour we found a pod of 7 to 8 white-beaked dolphins that started to jump out of the water in ecstasy! We kept on following these amazing cetaceans as they came very close to the boat, jumped around again with the sunrise in the horizon and we could even see a calf amongst them!
It was a very chilly morning here in Reykjavík, so we put on our warm and cozy overalls and off we went in search of cetaceans! Two blows were seen in the middle of a big flock of kittiwakes, they were from 2 humpback whales that were feeding separately. We then saw one of them again in the afternoon and even witnessed a peduncle throw! Brilliant!
Today was another sunny day in Faxaflói bay, although the wind was strong and the sea was quite choppy. We had a pod of at least 4 white-beaked dolphins on both tours, but by the time we tried to get closer to them, they had disappeared. Despite our best efforts, we had no other encounters and therefore decided to give out complimentary tickets to our passengers!
In the morning we spotted a humpback whale, and saw another blow not too far out and it turned out to be 2 of them next to each other, and a minke whale and a pod of 10 white-beaked dolphins! This afternoon we saw 2 humpback whales (so close we thought they were touching the boat), then we saw 5 white-beaked dolphins as well as 6 harbour porpoises!
After some sailing this morning we spotted a blow and went to investigate. It turned out to be a humpback whale! In the afternoon we also found a humpback whale (temporarily named Spooky for Halloween, but also as it often appears and changes direction) and later we also spotted a pod of 12 white-beaked dolphins.
