Minke whale rescue in Keflavík!

Animals can be quite clever and resourceful! Earlier this summer, a young Minke whale in trouble sought the assistance of locals by swimming up close to the harbour in Keflavík and waiting calmly for rescue. It had somehow managed to get tangled in fishing net and seemed to be unable to free itself from it. With a little patience and teamwork from the police and Siggi the dive expert (http://dive4u.is/), the whale was eventually cut free. It then waited a while just under the water's surface, as if to say "thank you". With a pat on the head by Siggi for reassurance, the whale headed towards open waters again. Well done!
