Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

    • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00, 13:00

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: On another inclement weather day, with windy conditions and some rain added to the mix, we went in search of some marine creatures on the outskirts of the city. When we were passing by Engey, we noticed a blow near its shore, so we decided to go there and see what it was all about. We were flabbergasted to see that it was a humpback whale, in a very shallow place! It was our friend Frodo actually, a known good girl that keeps staying nearby. She came super close to us sometimes, so we could see how majestic she was when swimming along the water, a true marvel. She of course did its signature fluke dives, always a perfect 10 and made everybody happy. We decided not to bother too much so we searched for something else in the bay. Nothing was found apart from some cool eider ducks on the surf and we went back to the same area where Frodo was swimming. It continued to do whaly things as it is common to see and again, some beautiful fluke dives to end this amazing tour, even if it was very wet with all this rain. Back to the harbour safe and sound.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: After some rain during our morning tour the weather seemed to improve with the sun appearing behind the clouds. We sailed out and just after a few minutes we found our beloved humpback whale, Frodo, feeding inside Faxafói bay! Frodo was changing directions focused on its lunch and eventually it was full! Then started to pay more attention to our boat, getting closer and closer as the excitement of our passengers started to increase! We were blessed with very close sightings as Frodo swam around the boat! We then left Frodo and sailed out to search for something different but without any luck, as the visibility decreased and it started raining! However, before returning to port, we were still able to have a last look at Frodo who was around the area were we left her!

Bird species seen today include:

Northern fulmar, great black-backed gull, lesser black-backed gull, herring gull, great cormorant, Icelandic gull, european shag, eider duck, black guillemot, razorbill
